PS4 News – Major Announcements, PS4 “Souls” Spin-off and more

The PS4 release date in Japan is still over a month away. The highly Playstation orientated marketplace still hasn’t received the next gen console, but when it does there will be some major announcements to follow, tells Sony Japan Asia president Hiroshi Kawano in a recent interview with Famitsu.

“As for the release timing [in Japan,] we put a lot of serious thought into it,” Kawano tells Famitsu. “We very well understand that many of you were disappointed by the fact that the Japanese release date would be later than other regions. Our staff members, who love the PlayStation and are also considered a group of players themselves, strongly suggested ‘let’s release it in Japan first’”. “It was a decision that came after a lot of brainstorming from everyone,” continues Kawano. “However, since it was decided, we need to prove with our own actions that we care deeply for our customers in Japan. I believe it will be an effort that we will continue to work on from this point on.”

He mentioned the date of release for the PS4 in Japan.

“Actually, we decided on the release without being aware of the number’s order,” says Kawano. “Firstly, we wanted to definitely release it within the year, and then have it released on a Saturday, which was our main premise. It would have been tough to prepare for release right after New Year’s in January, and we also didn’t want to make it too much later. After narrowing it down and deciding on February, it just happened to be on that date.”

And his thoughts on the launch titles for Japan.

“We have 26 titles that are set to be simultaneously released, but what I’m looking forward to seeing is the rich variety of titles between the Japanese publishers we regularly meet and titles from Europe and America,” answers Kawano. “Lately, games from the west have been really heating up, so I’m very interested in seeing how you all will select your titles.”

He then talked about the PS3’s popularity and the future for PS4.

“It’s really hard to say,” shares Kawano. “When you think about the hardware and software separately, the PS3’s popularity is really spread out, so for the game creators to offer a new title for it, comes naturally. As for the hardware, they’ll still sell as part of bundles, so it’ll really be up to the players and their decisions.” “However, as for us, it’s safe to say that we’ll be strategizing with the PlayStation 4 as our main focus.”

An industry insider well known on NeoGaf as DemonNite posted some interesting information about the game “Demon Souls”. He said: “Sony haven’t won anything and they won’t think they won either. It’s going to be another generation of hard work and great games.”

Another user posted “Should I bet my soul on it?” He then went on to say: “If by souls you mean another PS4 exclusive Souls spinoff then maybe ?  ; )”

Perhaps a new spin-off of the game is coming soon.

A new clan system is coming in Killzone: Shadow Fall. The developers had this message:

“We’ve heard your message, loud and clear: you want a clan system in Killzone Shadow Fall. It is by far the hottest topic on the community forums, and the most requested feature on the Killzone Player Voice feedback system.

We truly appreciate the passion you’ve demonstrated in helping Killzone Shadow Fall become the best it can be, and we apologize for the time it’s taking to implement our full vision for the clan system. To make the wait more bearable, we’ve decided to roll out clan features in multiple phases.

The first phase will arrive with patch 1.09, which is currently slated for an early February release. This phase introduces clan system features to both the game and the website. The patch will add support for displaying clan tags alongside player names in the game, while the website will receive basic clan management functionality – including the ability to create clans, add/remove members, and promote members to clan officers.

In subsequent phases, we will expand on these features through free game patches and site updates, based in part on your feedback. We will also enhance Killzone Shadow Fall’s competitive multiplayer experience through the release of new content, such as free maps and the soon-to-be-announced first DLC expansion pack.

We hope you’ll continue to enjoy Killzone Shadow Fall and be forthcoming with your ideas and feedback.”
